The Certified Angus Beef® brand is beef so superior it has passed scrupulous evaluations for quality, and is regarded as the best beef available. Only 8% of beef meets the brand's high standards, as evaluated and certified by U.S. Department of Agriculture meat graders.
In 1976, before there were specific beef brands, changes in beef grading resulted in greater variation in quality. It was then that the American Angus Association, which consists of 35,000 cattle ranchers, created the Certified Angus Beef® brand to ensure consistently flavorful, juicy and tender beef. It was the first beef brand and is still the highest quality beef available.
